Manu Jain
During his first week in the United States, Manu encountered some challenges as a 7-year-old new to Bloomington, Indiana.
Sports played an integral role in Manu finding his place in Bloomington society.
His mom did not let him play football, but he played tennis, soccer, basketball and baseball. Playing sports was a way for Manu to integrate himself into his predominantly white, suburban hometown. He formed friendships with people from different backgrounds.
Manu moved to Chicago, attended medical school, and became a pulmonary critical care specialist and a professor at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. After his parents passed away, he continued his parents’ Thanksgiving tradition.
