Mita Jain
Mita said that her parents never took for granted their move to United States, but it came with challenges. Her parents worked full-time. Her mom came home every night to cook dinner and clean up. Mita and her sisters helped her.
“They worked hard but they knew that it was in furtherance of a better life for us,” said Mita. “They were willing to make sacrifices.”
During her first week in the United States, Mita struggled to find her way around.
She did not know English when she first moved to Chicago. She learned it from PBS shows like Sesame Street, Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Electric Company.
Mita stayed in Chicago, attended law school and now works at a public relations company.
