Santosh and Chaman Jain

Chaman came to the United States in 1969 to pursue a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Indiana University in Bloomington.

One year later, Santosh and their two children, Manu and his younger sister, joined him.

They settled in Bloomington and lived in student housing.

Chaman became a professor and Santosh worked different jobs,: babysitting for graduate students’ kids, selling cosmetics and working as a seamstress.

The Jain family.

Chaman and Santosh loved Thanksgiving, and the idea of gathering with loved ones to give thanks.

Living in Indiana University housing, they realized that international students often spent the holidays away from family, unable to travel home. They began inviting 25-45 students to their home to enjoy home-cooked Indian food and a familial atmosphere for the holiday.
